AW25 CHASING DAYLIGHT

AW25 CHASING DAYLIGHT

The debut collection, Chasing Daylight, delves into the condition of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), exploring the correlation between human mental well-being and seasonal light variation, revealing how one’s mental health is a product of the environment they are situated in.

Lily Wild comments: ‘I have chosen to explore the emotional and psychological journey of seasonal affective disorder, as living in the United Kingdom, there are harsh changes in the seasons and the duration of daylight. Collectively, this seems to affect the emotional state of many. Fashion, much like the seasons, embraces darkness and light. Chasing daylight is a nod to the silent battles many face in the winter, and the resilience it takes to bloom and regrow into ourselves again.’

The colour palette of Chasing Daylight is dominated by muted tones, highlighting the emotional vulnerability of SAD. The softness of the colour concepts communicates fragility and gentleness, juxtaposing with the bold exaggeration of silhouettes within the collection.

The silhouettes include statement shoulders and mutton-leg sleeves, taking inspiration from the historical Gibson Girl silhouette. The bold shoulders imitate armour, protecting the wearer from the harsh changes of seasons and invoking feelings of confidence by increasing the wearer's presence.

Throughout the collection, pleating can be seen to represent the layers of the mind and the depth of mental health. With each layer, the pleats create order from chaos and symbolise calming the mind and bringing clarity to the wearer. Each look uses deadstock materials from offcut fabrics, ensuring the garments are one-of-a-kind.
